In my opinion, too often the performance review becomes a source of antagonism between the worker and management, rather than the opportunity for recognition and encouragement that it should be. Sure, everyone has areas to work on, but this should never be conveyed in a judgmental and negative manner, which only causes defensiveness and resentment.
