High Noon for Enterprise Databases

April might be the cruelest month, but October has had its fill of gore. InnoDB acquisition by Oracle might not have rocked the IT industry but it's a tremor that can't be ignored. As usual, Stephen O' Grady's Tecosystems is a good starting point to explore some of the implications of of the Oracle InnoDB acquisition.

My one observation is that this can't but help PostgreSQL vis-a-vis both MySQL and Oracle. After all, one of the main sellilng points about InnoDB has been transactions, an area where MySQL has always trailed PostreSQL. In short, the InnoDB acquisition sets the stage for Oracle vs PostreSQL showdown for the enterprise market.

High Noon is still a ways away, but the clock is now ticking.
